Visiting Professionals, Industry and Academic Conference Engagement

The programme receives great support from the wider film culture of exhibition within the UK. This is expressed through the contribution of visiting professionals and through the collaborative embedded research projects our students have undertaken. Where appropriate student creative projects are supported by specialised mentors.

Visiting speakers to MSc Film, Exhibition and Curation have included:

  • Lizelle Bisschoff, Africa in Motion co-founder
  • Mark Cousins, curator, film-maker, film writer
  • Mark Daniels, New Media Scotland
  • Michael Franklin, Goldsmiths’ Institute for Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship
  • Chris Fujiwara, curator, artistic director Edinburgh International Film Festival
  • Allison Gardner, director of the Glasgow Film Festival
  • Lindsay Mann, artist and curator
  • Naheed Raza, experimental film-maker
  • Shona Thomson, independent curator
  • Rod White, programmer Filmhouse

Given the rapidity of change across the field of film exhibition students and staff on the programme engage heavily with current practice and with emergent thinking across the industry. We have been fortunate to secure funding to enable students to attend a range of industry and academic conferences as part of their studies. These include:

  • This Way Up – industry exhibition conferences in Newcastle, Manchester and Glasgow
  • Film Festival Research Conference, organised by Film Festival Research Network
  • Jon Reiss, distribution masterclass at EIFF  (FEC student attendance funded by Scottish Screen)
  • Edinburgh International Audiences Conference
  • Creative Scotland Exhibition workshops at Scottish Screen Summit
  • Regular film-making masterclasses at Edinburgh College of Art
